I'm still salty about the super fast subs that WOWs is planning. It was slower on the surface at 15-16kts. It was the fastest underwater sub to be mentioned for WoWs at 17-18kts, so could pace a Katori. The T10 U-2501 didn't use a deck gun and only had AA guns. (17-18kts surfaced and 7-8kts underwater) The T6 U-69 used an 88mm gun like the V-25. The T10 Balao class used any of the 3 deck guns listed, with evidently most to all being upgraded to the 5"/25 (127mm) gun which would be similar to the secondary guns on the Pensacola. The Sampson, Wickes, and Clemson use the 4"/50 Mk 12 (102mm). The T6 Cachalot used a 3"/50 and the closest in WoWs is the 3"/50 (76.2mm) Mk 5 on the T2 Smith DD. The French Surcouf did mount two 8" (203mm) guns in a single turret, but I highly doubt it was to be used on anything other than merchant ships. Yeah, one gun, and small ones at that, means a shoot out with something other than an unarmed merchant ship is a losing proposition. So if you want to fight a surface duel with (at most) the 5-inch gun on the stock T2 US cruiser Chester, and maybe even as something as small as on the Smith, be my guest! You would certainly not be fighting with a 5-inch gun of the sort found on a Farragut, Mahan or Benson. What you have to remember is that most WW2 subs had a main deck gun somewhere between 3 inch and 5 inch.
